Pavel Kučera and his family were rounded up for deportation during the night of the “big catch”, September 28, 1944. Six-year-old Pavel and his parents were sent via the Sereď camp to Bergen-Belsen. Pavel’s mother had packed a popular Slovak children’s book, Čin-čin, into Pavel’s baggage. Pavel survived the evils of the camp and managed to keep the book safe with him. [MB]
