Pullover

The Jews who escaped deportation and still remained in Slovakia in the autumn of 1944 went into hiding. Families with small children spent the icy winter in unheated dugouts in the forests with limited food supplies and in dire hygienic conditions. Professor Pavel Traubner, a respected Bratislava neurologist and the honorary chairman of the Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Slovakia, preserved for decades the only pullover he wore during those desperate months of hiding.
